Strategy to rank globally in D2C Space ( Local success to Global Success )

In 2023, we started working on a hair extension brand that performed well on Google and other search engines. However, significant traffic and sales were only coming from India; we were expecting around 6-7 lakh of sales from SEO traffic ( Organic traffic from search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, Baidu, and others ). However, we were only getting 3-4 lakh of sales from Google search, Google shopping (organic Google as a source), and other search engines.

We have given it deep thought and started working on a new domain with a .com extension and optimization from a Global market perspective. Our existing domain is very much optimized from an Indian market perspective; this was one of the reasons the global market did not accept it. So, we started working on a new domain with internal targeting in our strategy.

How did we do optimization?

  • We have updated the content as per the international market.
  • Introduced products as per competitor research and introduced some of the new collections and product ranges that suit the international market.
  • Updated blogs as per the overseas market.
  • Product details and images are updated as per international standards.
  • The photoshoot was also particular and gave more acceptance to the international audience.

It was a challenging journey, but we started seeing a good impact after regular optimization of the .com website.

In just 6 months, we have started noticing a good trend, and we have achieved the following results:

  • 2–3X growth in organic clicks and impressions
  • Impressions neared 1 million, and clicks crossed 8000
  • CTR improved from 0.8% to 0.9% (small but meaningful)
  • $3,000+ in organic sales and $800 via organic Google Shopping (last 28 days).
  • Google is the primary search engine, and 10-15 % of sales come from different search engines, for a total of 3800 USD per month.

The entire growth was driven organically. Technical SEO and proper on-page and link-building practices played a significant role in keeping international audiences in mind. The growth of the D2C brand in the hair extension segment has taught us much about the D2C Space, and our strategy has generated decent responses.

  • Technical SEO ( Schema, Image optimization, Code compressing of Shopify)
  • On-page updation ( Meta properties, Heading tags optimization )
  • Link Building ( We acquired quality links via checking sites on different parameters)
